Upland Strong

What is Upland Strong?

Upland Strong is a combination of programs and frameworks that support positive behavior and promotes a culture of pride, respect, and unity and Upland High School.

Upland Strong combines the framework of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies) with the Capturing Kids Hearts approach to provide a stronger more connected high school experience.

What is PBIS?

PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) is an implementation framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students.

PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.
There are 3 levels: Tier I supports are universal (for all students), Tier II supports are for some students that include things like counseling groups or peer tutoring and Tier III supports are for a few students who need individualized help

What is Capturing Kids Hearts?

Capturing Kids' Hearts is a relationship building approach to discipline that creates self-managing groups.

The research-based process provides practices that will help create a stronger school through fewer discipline referrals, improved attendance, higher student achievement, lower dropout rates, and higher teacher satisfaction.
