Track and Field 2017

Your Upland Highlanders shined at the Trabuco Hills Invitational. Top performances include:

Men's 4x100m Relay team of Namir Hemphill, Caleb Roberson, Joseph Anderson and Devin Chandler who took 1st place in a time of 41.93.

Joseph Anderson who won the 110m Hurdles in 14.08 and the 300m Hurdles in 37.43 breaking the 20 year old meet record previously set at 37.50. Those performances along with his performance in the relay earned him the honor of "Track & Field Athlete of the Meet".


Other outstanding performances include:

Jada Hicks who won the 100m Hurdles in a time of 14.50 and took 4th in the 100m with a season best 12.15. Jada was also part of the winning 4x200m relay team (1:42.89) which also included DeMia January, Destiny Curley, and Kerrington Smith.

Jeremiah Castellano who ran PRs in both the 1600m (4:39.17) and the 3200m (9:55.19 - 2nd Place). His time in the 3200m is the 3rd fastest in school history.

Hassani Hawkins who ran 1:59.26 for 2nd place in the 800m. The 6th fastest time in school history.

Namir Hemphill who improved his PR in the long jump by 17" to get the gold with a leap of 22-08.25.

Tyree Meeks who set new PRs in both the long jump (20-05.75) and the triple jump (41-03.25) to take 1st place and 2nd place respectively.

Isabelle Esparza who took 2nd place in the Frosh/Soph High jump (4-10)

Kerrington Smith who set a new PR in the triple jump with a leap of 35-06.

Congratulations to the Boys and Girls track teams on their win over Damien/St. Lucy's last week. The boys are currently 2-0 in league competition. The girls are 1-1.


Several athletes also competed in the Arcadia Invitational this past weekend. Highlights include:


  • Caleb Roberson sett a new school record winning the Seeded 300m Hurdles in a time of 37.16.
  • Namir Hemphill finished 6th in the Invitational Triple Jump with a leap of 45-09.75.He was the only freshman to qualify for the event.
  •  Jada Hicks won the 100m Hurdles in a season best time of 13.89.
  • Joseph Anderson won the Invitational 110m Hurdles tying his lifetime best performance of 13.59.

The 4x100m Relay Team of Seymore, Roberson, Anderson, and Hemphill took 2nd in the Invitational section with a time of 41.92.

  • The 4x200m Relay team of Curley, Smith, Smith, and January took 6th in the seeded section with a time of 1:44.17.

Four of our athletes also competed at the South Pasadena Invitational. 

All four athletes ran personal best times.

  • Jeremiah Castellano 1600m 4:37.81 (PR by 2 seconds)
  • Olivia Hanley 3200m 12:27 (6 sec PR)
  • Alex Capetillo 3200m 11:43 (12 sec PR)
  • Kevin Reed 3200m 10:08 (4 sec PR)
