How Freshman Can Join CSF 2nd Semester

Hello UHS Freshman!

Beginning 2nd Semester, Freshman can join CSF !!

The California Scholastic Federation is a State Chartered high school community service organization for high school academic scholars. To (a) wear the CSF stole at your high school graduation, (b) to walk in the front of the graduation line to receive your diploma on Graduation Day and (c) to receive a CSF Seal on your High School diploma, you must accumulate 20 hours of community service while maintaining our CSF academic standards at Upland High School. Here's how to find out if you're eligible to join the UHS CSF.

To qualify for CSF you must NOT have ANY D’s or F’s and earn a total of at least 10 points from your grades as listed in 3 CSF Course List categories (see the CSF Course LIst which is attached to this email.).

An A is 3 points, a B is 1 point and a C is 0 points. For an Honors or AP course, you may add one extra point (A = 4, B = 2) but you can only do that for TWO courses even if you are enrolled in more than 2 Honors or AP courses in a given semester. Always, a C is 0 points.

The 3 CSF Course Lists are titled List I, List II and LIst III. Here's how you calculate your CSF points to join and remain in CSF. Remember, to join CSF you must have a total of 10 points.

(a) 4 points MUST come from the courses found in List I.

(b) 3 points MUST come from the courses found in Lists I or II

(c) 3 points can come from the courses found in Lists I, II, or III.

PE, Teacher/Library Assistance or any course taken in PLACE of PE will not count toward CSF calculations.

You can only use FIVE (5) courses (or 25 units) to achieve the 10 points each semester.

If you have a block schedule course (such as math, where you are in class for two periods at a time) you may count that grade TWICE, but you can only use 4 courses to earn 10 points (still 25 units).

Use this form to calculate your CSF eligibility:

Course Name     Grade            List #(I, II, III)         Points Earned

Course 1       ________             _____            _____                      _____

Course 2        ________             _____            _____                      _____

Course 3        ________             _____            _____                      _____

Course 4        ________             _____            _____                      _____

Course 5        ________             _____            _____                      _____

                                                                            Total Points      _____

If your total is at least 10 points, the take this form to the Student Store and pay our cashier the $7.00 CSF Membership Fee and you're in! (The accuracy of your calculations will be checked by your Counselor.)

Then click the CSF Tab on Schoolloop to see what CSF Activities are available for you to earn community service hours during this 2nd Semester. You should plan on earning 4 hours of community service in your Freshman year.

If you've any question, stop by Mr. Zki's room (H-183) and he'll help you with calculations (or ask you counselor).

Welcome aboard!
